Top Items Sold on eBay

Top Items Sold on eBay

by Skip McGrath
There are several ways to discover the top items sold on eBay These methods are free and available right on eBay. All you have to do to access the top selling items is sign into your account and follow these instructions.

Top Items Sold on eBay

The first resource is eBay itself. Click on the link to Site Map at the bottom of any eBay page. Look in the middle column under Seller Resources and click on the link that says "What's hot." Here is what that looks like:
Top Items Sold on eBay
When you click on that link you will see a page that looks like this:
eBay Pulse - Top Items Sold on eBay
Below that is a list of the most watched items on eBay. This is another indicator of the top items sold on eBay.
Top Items Sold on eBay List
The links on the left show you the popular searches.  The links on the right show the largest stores on the theory that they are large because those are the products that sell. Also notice the drop down box that says "Category". If you pull down a specific category it will show you the popular searches in each category. So for example, if you are a book seller and you want to find the top selling books, it would look like this:

And right below that is a list of the hottest selling books on eBay:

Where to Buy the Top Items Sold on eBay?

This is where it becomes a little harder. One of the problems with selling top items is that they are very competitive and the margins are fairly low because of this. And you are usually up against large sellers who can buy their inventory in large quantities.  So you really have to learn the wholesale system and how it works.  One of my best selling books is The Wholesale Buying System. It is a printed book that comes with members-only access to my website where I list sources.
The other excellent place to find legitimate wholesale sources is WorldWide Brands.  The are the only company I recommend for wholesale information.  As for the large drop ship companies that advertise all over the web –I have tried most of them and it never worked for me. Basically they are middlemen and their prices are really too high to allow any profit margin on eBay. And some of those sites sell counterfeit or knockoff goods. So you will always do better when you work directly with the sources.

How to take great product photos to sell more on eBay

eBay Photo Basics – Part One

By: Skip McGrath ©2009
This is the first in a series of short articles to help you sell more on eBay. Most new eBay sellers make the basic mistake of using poor photos.  This is a great way to waste money on listing fees.  Any experienced eBay seller will tell you that a good photo is at least 50% responsible for generating winning and profitable bids.
Take a look at some of these photos on eBay:

You can see a guitar that is selling for over $200, a pasta machine and a necklace. Would you be interested in any of these if you saw this photo?
These 3 photos exhibit three common problems.
1. Distracting background (Guitar). If the seller just removed the grass planting from the background it would have looked much better. Next he could have hung it on the wall instead of showing the floor. That would have improved the photo greatly.
2. Distracting background and poor lighting (pasta machine). Why not just set the machine on a table near a window.  That would not be perfect –but much better than this seller has now.  The problem with this listing is that there were several identical pasta machines selling for the same price that has perfect photos.
3. Wrong color background and Poor lighting (necklace).  The necklace is actually very pretty but it is grossly under exposed and the colors get lost in the background.  Again, just move the shot near a window to get more light and then use a neutral color background.

Here is a good example of a before and after shot with a distracting background. This is from a reader who asked me to review one of his auctions. The one in the before shot had no bids.

The other thing you see often on eBay is fuzzy photos.  This is the result of hand-holding a camera in low light.  Unless your lighting is very bright, the shutter speed on a digital camera will be very slow. So if you handhold your camera you image will not look very sharp. Here is one of my photos that I tried to handhold in poor light:
Notice how fuzzy the image is. On the right is an example of a sharp image where I used a tripod instead of handholding.
Notice how much sharper the image is. So the lesson here is use a tripod. If you don’t have one, then be sure and brace your hand holding the camera on a solid object to prevent camera shake.
The other issue sellers run into is reflections when trying to shoot a shiny object. Here is one of the most famous photos on eBay. Look closely and you will see an image of the photographer reflected in the photo.  Notice what he is wearing –or should I say –not wearing !!!

The way to conquer reflections is with very soft lighting. Try shooting near a window on a cloudy day or shine a light through some white rip-stop nylon to diffuse it.
One way to solve all of these problems is with an EZ Cube fromwww.ezauctintools.com. Here are a couple of popular models.

Look for more tips in Part Two.

Guest Blogger: 7 Ways That Plus Size Fashion Is Evolving

Please welcome Betty Pamper of PamperandCurves.com to the stage!
Even a few years ago plus size fashion was a narrow prescriptive place. The sheer lack of availability of clothes in sizes over a size 14 meant that for the average plus size babe channeling the latest fashions was just an unattainable goal.
Fast forward to 2015 and it’s a totally different landscape lets just take a moment to think about how far we have come! We have rounded up seven reasons why we can say that plus size fashion is evolving! There are many other reasons, but for sake of shopping, we will keep it here!

# 1 We Can Shop at More Than One Store!

Here in the UK, until not so long ago if you were blessed with a fuller figure you could only shop at Evans, a few shops aimed at mature ladies, or join a nudist colony. Stretchy pants, ugly tunics and elasticised waistbands were the only gig in town and trying to make that look stylish was no easy task. With the online revolution and fashion retailers realising that the plus size pound is just as valuable as the regular sized one whilst its not quite an embarrassment of riches there is definitely more choice.

# 2 There’s a Riot of Color

Rather like Ford cars plus size clothes used to come in any colour as long as it was black. The old fashioned notion that black is “slimming” saw a severe neglect of the colour spectrum in threads over a size 14 leaving us chubby fashion hounds desperate for some bright hues. Now if we want to wear all the colors of the rainbow we can (and often do)!

#3 It’s Catwalk Led and Inspired

As a lover of couture, I would flick through magazines longingly looking at the coverage of London and New York fashion week or the catwalk shows in Paris, knowing that none of the trends featured would trickle down to plus size ranges. Now not only are our clothes bang on trend, but we have our own shows. Evans led the way with their breathtaking show at London fashion week last year and increasingly fat fashion is making its mark in high fashion. Sashay that booty.

#4 Its Affordable

Buying really beautiful larger clothes often felt like being held up by a masked man on a horse. Daylight robbery dressed up as retail. With so few options you just had to accept that you would always pay three times more for a pair of jeans than your smaller sisters. Now there are affordable brands who let us make impulse buys, luxuriate in fast fashion and mean we aren’t seriously broke because we need a new frock for Friday night.

#5 There Are More Natural Fabrics and Fancier Blends

Plus size clothes have always had a tendency to be made in nasty man made fabrics. There have been many a time that I have been afraid to stand too close to a naked flame, for fear of going up like a Roman candle! Soooo flammable has been my skater dresses of fashion past. Whilst we might not completely be able to escape the tyranny of elastene, we are seeing more clothes in cottons and linens and our skin love it.

#6 Skin Tight Is Quite Alright

The baggy is best approach for anything over a size 14 was the go to plus size style for years. Tunics so generous you could house a small family in them, trousers so baggy they doubled up as sleeping bags! As we have become more accepting of our curvy fine shapes, fashion is starting to realize we want to show it off. Form fitting and clingy clothes are far from being avoided and are only now being embraced. Why? Because we look good in it.

#7 We can be whoever we want to be

Every morning I wake up and still get a small surge of excitement about my plus size fashion options. Rather than being faced with the same three or four tunics and boot cut trousers I can be whoever I want to be.
Some days this is pretty, outfits so sweet it makes your teeth ache. Pastel colored confections, swing dresses and floral circle skirts. Other days I can do pared back city chic androgyny, boyfriend jackets, cigarette pants and jersey tees in grey marl and taupe.
Clothes are my story telling, they give the world all the information they need about how I am feeling on any given day and its great to be able to offer a blockbuster rather than a pamphlet. It’s wonderful to think how far plus size fashion has come and with it a limitless array of possibilities. The freedom of expression this availability of clothes had offered not just to me, but to a world of plus size women is phenomenal.
Sure there is still some way to go, but overall the landscape for curvy girls is vibrant, eclectic, and this is encouraging a whole generation of plus size women to throw themselves headfirst into fashion, like children at a ball pool! I’m holding my nose and diving in-come join me! Wheeeee!

7 Ways to Make More Money on eBay

Make Your eBay Listings Get the Attention they Deserve
By Sean Eyring, eBay Consultant, and eBay Education Specialist
We've all been there. You visit a Web site looking for information.. You're bowled over with bright "circus" colors, animations going everywhere, and text that's hard to read.
The site almost begs you to click your browser's "back" button. Many eBay listings look the same way. If you want to make more money on eBay follow these tips.
eBay's "Create Your Listing" page makes it easy to use backgrounds, change text colors, add graphics, and so on. But the question is, does the look of the listing increase your chance to sell your product? Read on to learn when using eBay designs makes sense... and "cents."
"Branding" Yourself Online
Is there a time when consistency of appearance counts? Here's a quick mental exercise. Think of the Coca-Cola logo. What colors are used? If you thought red and white, their multi-million dollar branding campaigns did their job.
Why not blue and white? It doesn't matter, really. What matters is that they use red and white over and over to "brand" themselves into your mind. Put a Coke, a Pepsi and a Dr. Pepper at the bottom of a cooler filled with ice water. Even without being able to read the labels, if I want a Dr. Pepper, I reach for the dark red can.
Sure, ass an eBay seller you don't have the advertising budget of Coke or Pepsi. But you have one advantage. If you sell products on eBay, especially in any kind of specialty "niche" market, it's likely that many of the same people will see several of your listings. Here's where branding comes in.
Create a consistent and unique look for your eBay listings. Use the same background image if you choose to use one. Use the same text color and font. Create a unique "theme" and use it for all your listings.
Consistency Pays
What's the value of consistency? On eBay, people may fear buying from those they don't know. That's why eBay has their feedback system. It gives you some confidence in the person you're buying from.
If a person recognizes the "look" of your eBay listings, you increase your chances to sell to them. If an eBay buyer purchases from you and has a good experience, the next time they recognize one of your listings, you further increase your odds of selling to them. The more sales you make the more money you make on eBay.
Designing Your Unique "Look"
So now that you know the value of a consistent design, how do you create your own look? I'm an online marketing consultant. When I work with a client, the first question I ask is "Who is your audience?"
If you're mostly selling electronics, you probably don't want to go with a border with flowers and dolls. On the other hand, if you specialize in selling teddy bears and plush toys, this may fit your audience perfectly.
Think of your audience. Are they predominantly male or female? Is your product high-tech or high-touch in nature? Take a moment to write down what you know about potential buyers of your products. Keep this in mind when designing the look to use with your listings. But there are a few absolute do's and don'ts.
Absolute Design No-No's
Make your eBay listings easy to read. First of all, let's choose the text color and background. Use black on white or on another VERY light color. Never use light text on a dark background. Especially on older monitors, it can be too difficult to read.
Use a font size that's large enough to read easily. Stay away from small print that many readers will have to strain their eyes to read.
Use a "sans-serif" font like Arial or Verdanna. "Serif" fonts like Times New Roman are easy to read in print, which is why they're used in newspapers and novels. Studies have shown however, they are much harder to read on a monitor.
Composing Your eBay Listings for Maximum Effect
Studies have shown that any Web page (such as your eBay listing) has between 3 and 10 seconds to grab the interest of your reader. If you haven't made at least one "benefit" statement they connect to, chances are they're gone with a quick click of their browser's "back" button. And they're gone for good.
So how do you catch the attention of your audience in seconds? Simple. Put your best benefits at the top, and make them easy to read. Bullet points are great for that. Give short, to-the-point descriptions of why the reader should by your product.
Benefits vs. Features
I've read dozens of books on marketing. I'll save you a lot of reading. Here's the thing I've learned that's more important than any other. It's the value of clearly stating your product's benefits.
Let me illustrate the difference between two ads for computers, one based on features, the next based on benefits:
Features-based
  • 3.0 Gigahertz Processor
  • 256 Megabyte Video Card
  • 350 Gigabyte Hard Drive
Benefits-based
  • Fast processor lets you get more done quicker
  • Powerful graphics card lets you play all the latest games
  • Roomy hard drive, so you can install all your programs and still have room for music and video
A feature describes an attribute of a product. A benefit tells why you should care. For example, stating a computer has 256 Megabytes of video RAM says nothing to the average computer user. It's a feature. But they may be purchasing the computer for someone who's really into the latest computer games. Many of these require a lot of video RAM.
Now we've turned the feature into a benefit by telling how that feature makes the product more valuable. Make sense? But one of the strangest things I see as a marketer is how even professionally produced advertisements costing thousands of dollars to create and sent out break this one simple rule.
Well there you have it. A quick Marketing 101 course as it applies to creating a winning "brand" for your auctions. We also described how to sell more often by focusing on benefits, rather than features.
Make the most of your auctions with research!
If you want to make more money on eBay, determining what works and what doesn't when it comes to your listings requires research. Anything less puts you at risk of not making the sale or not making as much as you could be on each sale. Increase Your eBay Profits with This One Technique

A key eBay technique of expert sellers is Don't over-package your packages. The more packaging material you utilize, the more your package will weigh. More weight = more postage. Now and again, lessening your package by only one ounce can result in a couple of dollars for your package to be mailed.

Mailing materials can get extravagant. Check with your nearby hobby shop, kitchen shop or electronics store. These stores will frequently discard boxes and have to pay to have them crushed in a compactor or in a dumpster. Many times they will gladly arrange for you to pick them up instead.

When it is necessary to utilize USPS Priority Mail, be sure to utilize the paper Tyvek envelopes rather than a box if an item in not exceptionally fragile. Boxes weigh more than the envelopes, and cost more to ship.

If you are shipping items that weigh less than 14 ounces, then utilize USPS First Class. You can buy your own particular poly mailers and utilize First Class for these lighter things. Poly mailing packs cost a couple of pennies when obtained in bulk amount.

If you are reading this than you are probably a seller on eBay. If that is the case then you like all other sellers want to maximize their listing efforts and turn that into profits. To be able to do this one must generate substantial amount of traffic to your eBay store and or listings. In the following article we will discuss 4 tools that can do this with virtually no money and very little time involved. The main thing is to commit to these four tools and to be consistent with them everyday and you will see results.

The first tool every eBay seller should utilize is Facebook. Facebook is one of if not the fastest growing websites in the world. This is a great way to let your online friends know about your eBay business and also to connect with other sellers and buyers through face book pages and groups. You can start a Facebook page for your eBay business and generate traffic to this page to view your items.

The second tool is Twitter. Twitter is becoming more and more mainstream everyday. having a presence on Twitter can very well increase your sales very quickly. When on Twitter try and follow people who are in the same niche as you and or may be one of you customers. Be consistent and offer your followers good content.

The third tool is Pinterest. Pinterest is starting to grow faster than Facebook and twitter combined. Pinterest is a site where pictures are shared and displayed. this presence can help you grow your eBay business very fast as well,

The fourth tool should be the use of a blog. A blog lets you be creative. You can set sales. Communicate with your buyers. Let them know what you have to offer. give tips and advice to other sellers thought articles. The more informative content you can muster the more you will be thought of as a expert. That is key when driving sales..people want to trust an expert and in turn will purchase products from a expert.

These tools if used on a consistent basis will increase your eBay business. Be steady and continue to list everyday and plug away at the tools above. You can link all four of these tools together so as you can post to all four sites once. success is not built overnight but instead success is built throughout the weeks and months and years ahead.
